Founder: Barnaby Joe Turner-Mendis

My career in the yachting industry began at sea, working as a Flotilla Mate before progressing to Flotilla Skipper, where I developed my foundations in yacht handling, navigation, guest relations and the day-to-day management of sailing holidays.


From there, I moved into private yacht operations, working as a skipper aboard both sailing monohulls and catamarans throughout the Mediterranean and South East Asia. These experiences gave me a hands-on understanding of yacht ownership, charter operations and what makes a yacht and its crew truly exceptional.


My career then took me into the commercial side of the industry, where I became Lead Charter Broker & Base Manager for Thailand and Southeast Asia with one of Asia's leading yacht brokerage and charter companies. Working with an international clientele, I gained invaluable experience in yacht charter, brokerage, destination knowledge and matching clients with the right yachts.


Having returned to the Superyacht industry, I now work as a Superyacht Captain, continuing to build on my operational experience and extensive knowledge of the international yachting market.


In 2019, I founded Sailing Starboard with a straightforward philosophy: to offer honest, independent and knowledgeable advice, helping clients navigate the yacht market with confidence and find the right opportunities.
